Gioele Balestra received a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2011. He moved then to ETH Zurich for a Master with a focus on Fluid Mechanics, where he graduated in 2014. After a short period as a CFD Engineer in a consulting company, Gioele pursued a PhD in the Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics and Instabilities at EPFL. Using advanced theoretical, numerical and experimental techniques, he investigated the dynamics of droplets in microfluidic devices as well as the instability-driven pattern formation in coating flows. Gioele is the author and co-author of several peer-reviewed publications in some of the top journals in the field and participated to the main international conferences. His PhD has been awarded with the EPFL EDME Award and the Ryhming Prize. Gioele joined iPrint in 2019, where he contributes to the development of new digital deposition techniques.
